Basketball Game Preview: Wilkes-Barre Wolfpack vs. Hazleton Area Cougars

The Wilkes-Barre Wolfpack will head out to face off against the Hazleton Area Cougars at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday. Hazleton Area took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Wilkes-Barre, who comes in off a win.

Wilkes-Barre saw some tournament action on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 70-32 win over Thomas A. Edison. Given the Wolfpack's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 170th, while the Owls are ranked 528th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Hazleton Area duked it out withCentral York on Saturday. Hazleton Area took a 76-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of Central York. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (56), the Cougars still had to take the loss.

Hazleton Area has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Wilkes-Barre, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

Wilkes-Barre couldn't quite finish off Hazleton Area in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 and fell 60-58. Can Wilkes-Barre avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
