Baseball Recap: Hoopeston's Win Ends Six-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Armstrong typically has all the answers at home, but on Monday Hoopeston proved too difficult a challenge. They had just enough and edged out the Trojans 5-3. Surprisingly, this marked the Cornjerkers' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Dylan Judy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Hoopeston's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 3-1 (and 6-16 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Hoopeston secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Nick Cardenas, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Hoopeston's victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-17. As for Armstrong, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-8 record this season.

Hoopeston will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against North Vermillion at 4:30 p.m. As for Armstrong, they will venture away from home to square off against Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
