Meanwhile, Taylorsville gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They had just enough and edged out Layton 8-7.
Aleya Wegner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, Amari Aguila and Tianna Hansen did most of the damage at the plate: Aguila went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Hansen scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Those three hits gave Aguila a new career-high. Demi Miller was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Taylorsville lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
This is the second loss in a row for Kearns and nudges their season record down to 4-8. As for Taylorsville, their record now sits at 7-4.
Taylorsville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Kearns has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. It's a different story for Taylorsville, though, as they've only averaged .350. Will they be able to contain Kearns' hitters?
Kearns suffered a grim 15-5 defeat to Taylorsville in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Kearns avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
