Basketball Game Preview: Las Vegas Wildcats vs. Durango Trailblazers

The Las Vegas Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Durango Trailblazers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Las Vegas' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matches.

Last Friday, Las Vegas took a blow against Centennial, falling 90-60. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Bulldogs are ranked first).

Meanwhile, Durango was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 72-59 to Liberty.

Las Vegas will have to contain Emmanuel Peter as he made an impact in Durango's last game. He dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Durango is 7-3 when Peter posts eight or more boards, but 4-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Morrow, who posted 11 points.

Even though they lost, Durango smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Durango's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Las Vegas, their loss was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 7-12.

Las Vegas strolled past Durango when the teams last played back in January of 2024 by a score of 72-58. The rematch might be a little tougher for Las Vegas since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
