Volleyball Recap: Maria Otero Galan and Dani10 Matznick Secure Win for IMG Academy Royal

IMG Academy Royal lost to Berkeley Prep back in August of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Ascenders sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Buccaneers. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Ascenders.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was IMG Academy Royal who won the one that mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 22-25, 15-4.

IMG Academy Royal was led to victory by Dani10 Matznick and Maria Otero Galan. Matznick had 16 digs and two aces, while Otero Galan had 27 assists and nine digs. That's the most digs Otero Galan has posted since back in September of 2024.

IMG Academy Royal's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Berkeley Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

IMG Academy Royal will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Coronado at 7:00 p.m. on September 11. As for Berkeley Prep, they have already played their next contest, a 2-1 defeat against Lourdes Academy on the 30th.
