Basketball Recap: Andrew Lunt's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Maclay over Hialeah Educational Academy

Maclay's tournament run continued when they took on Hialeah Educational Academy on Friday. The Maclay Marauders took a 62-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hialeah Educational Academy Biggie. While losing is never fun, the Marauders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 298th, while the Biggie are ranked 38th).

Maclay's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andrew Lunt, who went 5 for 9 en route to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nash Beshears, who posted 11 points and three steals.

Leading Hialeah Educational Academy to victory were Tony Guerrero and Josiah Brooks. Guerrero went 6 of 9 on his way to 18 points along with six assists and three steals, while Brooks dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Guerrero's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Bryan Ramires, who scored 11 points.

Maclay has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Hialeah Educational Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-7.

Maclay didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-31 loss against Santa Fe Catholic on the 25th. As for Hialeah Educational Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 65-58 win against Windermere on the 25th.
