Softball Recap: Westfield Bulldogs vs. South Lakes Seahawks

Westfield extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 7-9 in the process. They took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Lakes Seahawks. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Seahawks earlier this season, when they won 4-2.

Morgan Mills put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. Mills was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Rylee Schmid was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one double. Ciara Ramsey was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

As for South Lakes, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.

On South Lakes' side, Cassandra De La Cruz was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI De La Cruz has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kayla Rudolph, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Westfield is set to face off against their familiar foe Chantilly at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, South Lakes will challenge rival James Madison at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Seahawks 3.7, the Warhawks 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
