Baseball Recap: Basic Comes Up Short

After flying high against Bishop Gorman last Friday, Basic came back down to earth. The Basic Wolves fell just short of the Palo Verde Panthers by a score of 9-7 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Wolves have suffered since April 4, 2024.

Basic got a good showing from Elian Ruiz, who struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk).

At the plate, Tate Southisene was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dallon Cegavske, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.

Basic's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Palo Verde, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Basic beat Palo Verde by a score of 12-4 on Friday.
