Recap: Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences Vipers vs. Maywood Academy Nighthawks
The Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences Vipers put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They managed a 50-45 victory over Maywood Academy. Given Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while Maywood Academy is ranked 1016th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Jared Dijamco, who scored 18 points along with 6 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahangir Tareen, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Maywood Academy saw an underclassman step up: Rodrigo Miranda dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 blocks. Another player making a difference was Demian Maciel , who scored 8 points along with 3 steals.
Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences pushed their record up to 9-0 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Maywood Academy, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.
