Softball Game Preview: Colony Titans vs. Montclair Cavaliers

The Colony Titans are taking a road trip to face off against the Montclair Cavaliers at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Colony hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.

Colony came up short against Don Lugo on Monday, falling 10-2.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Montclair made sure to put some runs up on the board against Pomona on Monday. Montclair blew past Pomona 31-1.

Izabella Benites was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Benites was also big at the plate, scoring five runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Zariah Surrey was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Sofia Rodriguez was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs.

Montclair kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Montclair's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Colony, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Colony has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Montclair struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Colony skirted past Montclair 10-9 when the teams last played back in April of 2018. The rematch might be a little tougher for Colony since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
