Softball Game Preview: Memorial Red Devils vs. Springfield Tigers

The Memorial Red Devils will challenge the Springfield Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Memorial is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

On Saturday, Memorial got the win against McKinley by a conclusive 7-1. The victory continues a trend for the Red Devils in their matchups with the Red Dragons: they've now won six in a row.

Ramani Adams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Abby Broz was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. Savannah Cleland was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Springfield gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They blew past Leetonia 22-3.

Makenna Wymer made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Wymer was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Gracie Maldonado was a standout: she scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Allen, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double.

Memorial now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Springfield, their record is now 1-0.

Memorial took their win against Springfield when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 20-10. The rematch might be a little tougher for Memorial since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
