Baseball Recap: Falls Lake Comes Up Short

Falls Lake dropped their record down to 9-10 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the East Wake Academy Eagles, falling 13-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Firebirds of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Boston Moyers was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Kameron Hill, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.

As for East Wake Academy, they pushed their record up to 15-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

On East Wake Academy's side, they got a great performance from Mason Brantley as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits (and only one walk).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Dexter Benton, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Weston Dixon was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Falls Lake wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 15-1 win against NCSSM: Durham on the 30th. Hopefully East Wake Academy paid attention to the Firebirds' contest: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Firebirds at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
