Preview: Rabun County Wildcats vs. Lakeview Academy Lions
The Rabun County Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lakeview Academy Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Rabun County struggled with offensive rebounds on Tuesday (Franklin had 900% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Rabun County might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 64-57 to Franklin, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Rabun County has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their defeat, Rabun County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Huey Blalock, who scored 21 points along with 8 assists and 5 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Blalock scored a full 36.8% of Rabun County's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Cooper Welch was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Lakeview Academy was fully in charge on Tuesday, breezing past Lanier Christian Academy 90-54 at home.
Rabun County's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Lakeview Academy, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Rabun County and Lakeview Academy were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, but Rabun County came up empty-handed after a 60-59 defeat. Can Rabun County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
