Softball Recap: Gridley Bulldogs vs. Live Oak Lions
After flying high against Oroville last Tuesday, Gridley came back down to earth. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Live Oak Lions by a score of 12-11 on Tuesday. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Delanie Cloyd stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Val Poyner, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
Gridley's loss dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Live Oak, their record now sits at 7-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gridley will host Las Plumas at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Thunderbirds will roll in looking for their 16th straight victory, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Live Oak, they will square off against Orland at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight.
