Baseball Recap: Beech Grove Hornets vs. New Palestine Dragons

Beech Grove extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-9 in the process. They lost 11-1 to the New Palestine Dragons. The Hornets were not able to make up for their defeat to the Dragons from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Beech Grove saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Thacker, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

As for New Palestine, their victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games.

On New Palestine's side, Ajay Kropp looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Kropp has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Gavin Neal was incredible, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Havel, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.

Looking ahead, Beech Grove will take on Seymour at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Owls' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Hornets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for New Palestine, they will face off against Franklin Central at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
