Basketball Preview: Blue Ridge Christian Warriors vs. Whitefield Academy Lions
Blue Ridge Christian is 8-2 against the Lions since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Blue Ridge Christian Warriors have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Whitefield Academy Lions at 5:30 p.m. on February 6th. Hopefully Blue Ridge Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday.
Blue Ridge Christian scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They walked away with a 26-15 victory over The Daniel Academy. That 11 point margin sets a new team best for Blue Ridge Christian this season.
Blue Ridge Christian found their leader in underclassman Risa Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season. Brielle Light was another key contributor, scoring two points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Whitefield Academy was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 45-44 to the Mustangs. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Whitefield Academy in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now lost seven in a row.
Blue Ridge Christian's victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-9. As for Whitefield Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Blue Ridge Christian, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 39-20 loss to the Lions in their previous matchup back in December of 2023.
