Baseball Game Preview: De La Salle Meteors vs. Antioch Sequoits

The De La Salle Meteors are taking a road trip to take on the Antioch Sequoits at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. De La Salle has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 1st.

Thursday just wasn't the day for De La Salle's offense. They fell just short of DePaul College Prep by a score of 2-0 on Thursday.

De La Salle saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaleb Navarro, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

While Antioch didn't have the best season last year (they finished 14-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over Wauconda on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Sequoits.

Carson Young tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over 5.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Tyler Johnson was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Colby Costello also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Antioch kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

De La Salle's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Antioch, their win bumped their record up to 9-5-1.

De La Salle came out on top in a nail-biter against Antioch when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Meteors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
