Baseball Recap: Castle Park Comes Up Short

Castle Park extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 6-14 in the process. They lost 12-4 to the Chula Vista Spartans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 5-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Lawrence Nellis was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run. Another player making a difference was Peyton Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

As for Chula Vista, they pushed their record up to 11-8-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

On Chula Vista's side, they got a great performance from Jorge Lopez as he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Lopez also tossed no walks, which is notable because the Spartans are 5-1-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-7 otherwise.

At the plate, Eric Zepeda was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Ayden Acosta also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Chula Vista beat Castle Park by a score of 10-0 on Thursday.
