Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Lily Day and Michelina Wayt Lead Howland to Victory + How To Watch

Howland proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by three) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Girard Indians 3-2. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won five in a row.

Howland got the W, but it wasn't easy, at least in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 31-33, 24-26, 25-9, 15-7.

Howland was led to victory by Michelina Wayt and Lily Day. Wayt had 22 digs and two aces, while Day had 14 digs and six kills. Those six kills gave Day a new career-high.

They weren't the only good server: Howland was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 17 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in five consecutive contests.

Girard's loss came despite strong showings from Chloe Plant and Khloe Pieton. Plant had 37 assists and nine digs, while Pieton had 12 digs, 11 kills, two aces, and one block. With that strong performance, Pieton is now averaging an impressive 5.6 kills per game.

Howland's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Girard, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Howland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Canfield on the 11th. As for Girard, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Struthers on the 11th.
