Baseball Preview: Clinton Dark Horses vs. Pender Patriots

The Clinton Dark Horses will take on the Pender Patriots in a tournament on Monday. Clinton will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

On Wednesday, Clinton needed a bit of extra time to put away St. Pauls. They walked away with a 12-9 win over the Bulldogs.

Josh Slater made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up four earned runs off only two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Clinton got a big performance out of Zyhan Wallace, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base and one run. Those three hits gave Wallace a new career-high. Tyler Hall was another key player, going 1-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Pender came into Thursday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Wallace-Rose Hill by a score of 6-2 on Thursday. The game was the first time the Patriots have beaten the Bulldogs on their field since May 2, 2017.

Reese Robertson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That RBI was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Howell, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Pender always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Pender's victory bumped their record up to 4-12. As for Clinton, their win bumped their record up to 13-4.
