Owen Dumbroski leads a balanced attack to beat Sewickley Academy

Recap: Serra Catholic Eagles vs. Sewickley Academy

The Serra Catholic Eagles entered their tilt with Sewickley Academy with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Serra Catholic escaped with a win on Friday against Sewickley Academy by the margin of a single free throw, 47-46. Given Serra Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 112th, while Sewickley Academy is ranked 254th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Serra Catholic's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Owen Dumbroski, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. The matchup was Dumbroski's third in a row with at least ten points. Tyler Sapida was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.

Serra Catholic's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Sewickley Academy, their loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Serra Catholic will take on Ellwood City at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Ellwood City focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Sunday. Sewickley Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Laurel Highlands at 4:30 p.m. on December 28th.
