Basketball Game Preview: Storm Lake Tornadoes vs. Pocahontas Indians

Storm Lake hasn't had much luck against Pocahontas recently, but that could start to change on Friday. After both having extra time off, both will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 6:15 p.m.

Storm Lake is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game last Friday. They received a blow as they fell 52-33 to Estherville Lincoln Central. While losing is never fun, the Tornadoes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Midgets are ranked 27th).

Meanwhile, Pocahontas put another one in the bag last Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down Sioux Central 62-44.

Pocahontas pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.8 points per game. As for Storm Lake, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Storm Lake didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Pocahontas when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 61-57 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Storm Lake since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
