Basketball Game Preview: Cumby Trojans vs. Cooper Bulldogs

Two dominant guards in Chett Vaughan and Jequan Brown are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Cumby Trojans will face off against the Cooper Bulldogs at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Both are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Cumby will bounce into Friday's game after beating Boles, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Cumby simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Boles 80-53. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Trojans have posted since December 14, 2024.

It was another big night for Vaughan, who went 16 for 26 on his way to 43 points and five rebounds. The contest was his 24th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chayton Vaughan, who went 8 of 12 on his way to 20 points.

Meanwhile, Cooper entered their tilt with Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy on Tuesday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy 77-29.

Cooper's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-5. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 34 points. As for Cumby, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-11.

Cumby was dealt a bruising 66-38 defeat at the hands of Cooper in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Can Cumby avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
