Baseball Recap: Welch's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

Welch lost a heartbreaker the last time they played South Coffeyville, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's game. The Wildcats' pitcher stepped up to hand the Lions a 15-0 shutout on Tuesday. With that win, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

John Hardin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Welch is 2-1 when Hardin allows one or fewer hits, but 0-7 otherwise. Hardin was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Thomas Ashworth was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Khol Lynch, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2.

Welch always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .792. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory snapped Welch's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 2-8 record. As for South Coffeyville, they dropped their record down to 1-7 with the loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Welch will face off against Wyandotte at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for South Coffeyville, a feisty cat fight will be fought as South Coffeyville Lions duke it out with Foyil Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
