Softball Recap: Tupelo Comes Up Short

Tupelo extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 12-10. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lewisburg Patriots. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Golden Wave of the 13-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Allie Chidester spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Tupelo saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooklyn Berry, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

As for Lewisburg, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games.

On Lewisburg's side, not much got past Lexi Edmiston, who gave up just four hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Tupelo off the board. Edmiston has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tupelo will head out to square off against Ripley at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Golden Wave's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Lewisburg, they are taking a road trip to challenge DeSoto Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
