Softball Preview: Calhoun County Saints vs. Horse Creek Academy Stallions

After both having extra time off, the Calhoun County Saints and the Horse Creek Academy Stallions will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

Calhoun County unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak back in March. They suffered a rough 19-7 defeat at the hands of Williston-Elko.

Michaela Craven led a balanced group of hitters, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. Alexa Tamayo was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, in what's become a running theme this season, Horse Creek Academy gave their fans yet another huge win last Thursday. They were the clear victor by an 18-1 margin over South Aiken Baptist Christian. The victory was just what Horse Creek Academy needed coming off of a 15-6 loss in their prior match.

Adrien Beak was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Beak has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. Beak was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, KJ Simpkins was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with a home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Kayden Hutto, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
