Pflugerville had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the Leander Lions by a score of 21-14 on Thursday. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but the Panthers were the (much) better team in the second half.

When it comes to explaining why Leander lost, don't look at Mason Montgomery. Despite the final result, he rushed for 90 yards and two scores on only seven carries, and also threw for 208 yards on 13 of 24 attempts. Ke'Marion Gordon helped out on the ground, rushing for 81 yards.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pflugerville will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Hays at 7:30 p.m. on the 5th. As for Leander, they will host Hendrickson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
