Basketball Recap: Tri Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Tri and Morristown squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Tri had to settle for second. They took a 57-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Morristown Yellow Jackets. The Titans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Yellow Jackets earlier this season, when they won 71-36.

When it comes to explaining why Tri lost, don't look at Jillian Chew. Despite the final result, she posted 20 points along with eight steals and six rebounds. That's the most points Chew has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lia Bohn, who put up 14 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Tri smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matches.

Morristown got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nevaeh Sanders out in front who went 9 of 20 to rack up 27 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Sanders is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 17 games she's played. Emma Nelson was another key player, going 5 for 10 en route to 15 points along with three steals and three blocks.

Tri's loss dropped their record down to 16-8. As for Morristown, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 15-7.

Tri does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Morristown, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-60 defeat against North Decatur on the 7th.
