Baseball Recap: Laughlin Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Laughlin, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Beaver Dam Diamondback on Tuesday. For the Cougars, this counts as revenge for the 9-6 victory the Diamondback walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2015.

Ayden Whitton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Those hits marked the first that he allowed this season. He was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Laughlin let Tristin Gurule and Adrian Ruiz run wild. Gurule scored four runs and stole eight bases while going 3-for-3, while Ruiz went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. With that strong performance, Ruiz is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Gavin Davis, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Laughlin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Laughlin's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-9. As for Beaver Dam, they dropped their record down to 1-8 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.
