Baseball Recap: Stevenson Comes Up Short

Stevenson fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against North Monterey County on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Condors by a score of 6-5. The Pirates were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Condors earlier this season, when they won 10-0.

Jacob Hall was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Phinn Thomas was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Stevenson's loss dropped their record down to 15-6. As for North Monterey County, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season.

Stevenson has already played their next matchup, a 9-2 victory against Everett Alvarez on the 7th. As for North Monterey County, they will square off against Pacific Grove at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
