Baseball Recap: Moshannon Valley Triumphs

Moshannon Valley won the last time they faced Conemaugh Valley and things went their way on Monday too. The Black Knights/Damsels sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Blue Jays. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Black Knights/Damsels.

Brady Kephart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Moshannon Valley is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-6 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mason Abernethy, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Valent Cervenak was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Moshannon Valley's record now sits at 6-7. As for Conemaugh Valley, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Moshannon Valley will square off against Curwensville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Golden Tide have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something the Black Knights/Damsels will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Conemaugh Valley, they will face off against Cambria Heights at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blue Jays are facing the Highlanders at the right time seeing as the Highlanders are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
