El Cerrito lost to Pinole Valley back in December of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The El Cerrito Gauchos escaped with a win against the Pinole Valley Spartans by the margin of a single free throw, 62-61. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Gauchos.

Despite the loss, Pinole Valley still got an impressive performance from Jaylin Reed, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ahmari Otis, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 19 points.

El Cerrito is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.4 points per game. As for Pinole Valley, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. El Cerrito won't have much time to rest: their next game is against De Anza at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. El Cerrito is facing De Anza at the right time seeing as De Anza is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Pinole Valley, they will also get right back to it: they'll square off against Vallejo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
