As of right now, no can't-miss quarterback recruit has emerged yet, though a number of talented players at the position have a chance to improve their stock, particularly at the U.S. Army National Combine. Frazier and Bridgewater are both dual-threat quarterbacks, while some believe Bridgewater may project better at wide receiver. Both are enjoying fine junior seasons.
The Carolinas have a strong class of signal callers in 2011, led by the likes of Butler's (Matthews, N.C.) Christian LeMay and Northwestern's (Rock Hill, S.C.) Justin Worley.
Lemming likes Texas' top junior rusher, Aaron Green, as well as the Louisiana duo of Kenny Hilliard and Jeremy Hill. Colleges are already heavily recruiting all three. Malcolm Brown and Herschel Sims (Abilene, Texas) give the Lone Star State two additional mega recruits at the position.
Charlotte (Punta Gorda, Fla.) star Mike Bellamy and Mainland's (Daytona Beach, Fla.) Marlin Lane will also make a push toward the top running back spot. Gateway Tech (St. Louis, Mo.) junior Anthony Pierson, a three-year varsity starter, is an another amazing talent.
Kasen Williams and George Farmer are certainly excellent selections to lead the group of 2011 receivers, as both are enjoying great seasons. Lutcher (La.) sensation Jarvis Landry has led his team to an undefeated season thus far and makes circus catches appear easy.
Charone Peake (Dorman, S.C.) and Vigor's (Prichard, Ala.) Marvin Shinn will also be ones to watch, as will Tobias Singleton, who is starring for Madison Central (Madison, Miss.), currently ranked No. 9 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25.
Valdosta (Ga.) junior Jay Rome is a top tight end.
Stan Prophitt
At tight end, Jay Rome is a bit of a surprising pick, given that he hasn't enjoyed the monster season that most were predicting. He'll still a top-tier recruit. Ben Koyack has been productive this year, while Austin Seferian-Jenkins is a selection based on potential --- he has plenty of it.
The offensive linemen pool is particularly intriguing. Notice how they come from a list of diverse states that aren't known for churning out linemen at the next level. Christian Westerman, Connor Hanratty, Matt Hegarty, and Cyrus Kouandjio will all likely be the top recruit from their respective states in a deep year for the position.
Noticeably absent is Redemptorist’s (Baton Rouge, La.) La’El Collins. The 6-5, 285-pound tackle will be joining teammate Jeremy Hill at LSU and may end up ranked higher than most of the current Lemming All-Americans.
Staying in Louisiana, Evangel Christian’s (Shreveport, La.) Jermauria Rasco headlines the defensive line class. Brennan Scarlett is an emerging defensive tackle from Central Catholic (Portland, Ore.). Chris Rock, from St. Francis DeSales in Columbus, Ohio, is a stud defensive end, but Steve Miller and Kenny Hayes will both challenge him for the top honor in the Buckeye State.
Six-foot-six Jadeveon Clowney has been a difference-maker for South Pointe (Rock Hill, S.C.) since his sophomore year and possesses as much talent as anyone in this class.
Tim Jernigan from Columbia (Lake City, Fla.) and O. Perry Walker’s (New Orleans, La.) Anthony Johnson will be two of the top defensive tackles nationally.
The All-American representatives at linebacker are equally deep. James Vaughters and James Wilder will be highly recruited by teams up and down the east coast. Curtis Grant, from Richmond’s (Va.) Hermitage, has been an absolute terror this season, and is another linebacker to watch, in addition to Skyline (Dallas, Texas) talent Anthony Wallace.
Lawrence Thomas, however, is shaping up to be the top recruit at the position.
In the secondary, Lemming’s selections all have the ability to make an early impact in college. Jabriel Washington has been making plays on both sides of the ball since his freshman season. Josh Turner hails from Millwood (Oklahoma City, Okla.), a program steeped in a tradition of producing college prospects.
Also watch for cornerbacks Terrell Chestnut and Leroy Scott, as well as Alabama product Enrique Florence, a safety.
The crop of defensive backs, though talented, does not appear as well-stocked as the class of 2010. However, it is still early, and fast-rising recruits can sometimes appear out of nowhere.
As far as athletes go, De’Anthony Thomas tops the list. He’s versatile and can play running back or defensive back. Hillsboro (Ore.) phenom Colt Lyerla will challenge him for the top spot, as well as Osbourn Park (Manassas, Va.) jack-of-all-trades Dominique Terrell. Terrell exploded for 271 yards in a AAA playoff game over the weekend.
