Football Recap: Junipero Serra Beats Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory for Their Third Straight Win

Junipero Serra had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory Fightin' Irish as they made off with a 34-14 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Padres' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Fightin' Irish are ranked 107th).

Andrew Takapautolo had a dynamite game, rushing for 152 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Iziah Singleton, who rushed for 100 yards and one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Junipero Serra was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 292 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Junipero Serra didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Malakai Taufoou and Lemani Fehoko.

Although Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory took the loss, they still got scores from Germaine Powell and Zion Secrease.

The win got Junipero Serra back to even at 3-3. As for Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 3-3.
