Basketball Recap: Ava Ruml's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Castlewood over Desmet

After flying high against Iroquois/Lake Preston last Thursday, Castlewood came back down to earth. The match between the Castlewood Warriors and the DeSmet Bulldogs didn't end well, with the Castlewood Warriors falling 58-42. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Castlewood lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ava Ruml, who went 5 for 8 on her way to 12 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Bryn Schooley, who posted eight points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Castlewood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Castlewood's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-9. As for DeSmet, they moved to 10-6 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Castlewood has already played their next game (against Deubrook), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. DeSmet has also has no score uploaded for their next contest, this one against Elkton/Lake Benton.
