Softball Recap: National Cathedral's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

National Cathedral dropped their record down to 10-4 on Thursday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Flint Hill Huskies by a score of 11-9. National Cathedral was not able to repeat the success they had when they faced Flint Hill earlier this season, when they won 6-2.

Iyanna Edwards made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Doster, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Flint Hill, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games.

On Flint Hill's side, Cate Stanley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and seven unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Zaina Gilbert was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rory Quinlan, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

National Cathedral does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Flint Hill, they will challenge Potomac School at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Panthers are coming into the match with nine straight victories at home, so the Huskies will have to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
