Basketball Recap: Samariah Freeman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead East Mecklenburg over West Stanly

East Mecklenburg's tournament run continued when they took on West Stanly on Saturday. The East Mecklenburg Eagles fell 55-45 to the West Stanly Colts. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Samariah Freeman, who posted 12 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Freeman has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenna Weisner, who put up 11 points and three steals.

East Mecklenburg's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for West Stanly, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

East Mecklenburg will take on Parkwood in a tournament on Monday. East Mecklenburg is facing Parkwood at the right time seeing as Parkwood is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for West Stanly, they will be taking part in a tournament against Lake Norman Charter at 11:30 a.m. on Monday. One thing working in West Stanly's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
