Basketball Game Preview: McLean Highlanders vs. Wakefield School Fighting Owls

The McLean Highlanders will take on the Wakefield School Fighting Owls at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

McLean came up short against Langley on Thursday, falling 58-37. While losing is never fun, the Highlanders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Saxons are ranked 15th).

Meanwhile, Wakefield School came up short against Randolph-Macon Academy on Thursday and fell 29-22.

Despite the loss, Wakefield School saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Finley Smith posted 11 points. That's the most points Smith has posted since back in January of 2024. Joelle Domfeh was another key player, putting up six points.

McLean's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-8. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points over those games. As for Wakefield School, their loss dropped their record down to 10-4.
