Baseball Game Preview: Russell Red Devils vs. Raceland Rams

For the second straight game, Russell will face off against Raceland. The Red Devils will head out to square off against the Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Russell 3.6, Raceland 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Russell is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Raceland just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Rams by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Red Devils have suffered since May 28, 2025.

For Raceland's part, Landon Bloss was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Bloss has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.

Bloss wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gunnar Smith, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Bryden Bush was another, earning two runs and two stolen bases.

The win was the fourth in a row for Raceland, bringing their record up to 17-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Russell, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 14-5.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Russell has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Raceland struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
