Baseball Game Preview: PikeView Panthers vs. Greenbrier East Spartans

The PikeView Panthers will head out to take on the Greenbrier East Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. PikeView is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last nine games.

PikeView saw some tournament action on Friday. They came out on top against Graham by a score of 8-3.

Eli Naylor was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Eli Hilling was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Deuce Rompon also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Greenbrier East might've scored the first runs on Saturday, but it was Sissonville who claimed the real prize. The Spartans fell just short of the Indians by a score of 2-1. The game marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Ashton Cochran made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-2.

PikeView's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Greenbrier East, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-4.

Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. PikeView hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Greenbrier East struggles in that department as they've averaged .361. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
