Baseball Game Preview: Burns Bulldogs vs. Cherryville Ironmen

The Burns Bulldogs are taking a road trip to face off against the Cherryville Ironmen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Burns will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against East Gaston on Wednesday. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 14-3 victory.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Cherryville made sure to put some runs up on the board against Highland Tech on Wednesday. The Ironmen blew past the Rams 13-3. The win continues a trend for the Ironmen in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won three in a row.

Brock Bumgardner made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Cherryville let Chandler Wooten and Talon Dalton run wild. Wooten went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Dalton went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs Dalton has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Anderson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Cherryville lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Burns is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Cherryville, their record now sits at 17-6.
