Basketball Recap: Taya Pace's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Layton over Davis

Layton lost against Davis back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Layton Lancers took a 49-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Davis Darts. The Lancers just can't catch a break and have now endured five losses in a row.

Several Lancers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Taya Pace, who posted 12 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. The dominant performance gave Pace a new career-high in boards. BrynDee Kozisek was another key player, putting up 11 points and five assists.

Davis found their leader in sophomore Kate Willard, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Those ten boards set a new season-high mark for Willard. The team also got some help courtesy of T'Maea Eteuati, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Layton's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Davis, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Layton will square off against Farmington at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Layton is facing Farmington at the right time seeing as Farmington is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Davis, they will challenge Syracuse at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Syracuse has won six straight at home, while Davis won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
