Basketball Game Preview: East St. Louis Flyers vs. Edwardsville Tigers

East St. Louis is 0-10 against Edwardsville since January of 2020 but things could change on Thursday. The East St. Louis Flyers will venture away from home to square off against the Edwardsville Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

East St. Louis is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 11th straight game on Tuesday. They took a 71-55 bruising from O'Fallon. One positive for the Flyers, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Edwardsville's game on Tuesday was all tied up 15-15 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They really took it to Collinsville for the full four quarters, racking up a 55-26 win. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Kahoks are ranked 202nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Edwardsville has also been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points per game. As for East St. Louis, their loss dropped their record down to 4-20.

East St. Louis took a serious blow against Edwardsville in their previous meeting back in January, falling 73-28. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point East St. Louis was down 42-19.
