Baseball Game Preview: Skyview Wolverines vs. Thornton Trojans

Skyview has gone 8-2 against Thornton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Wolverines will face off against the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Skyview has four straight victories, Thornton has 22 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Skyview's win against Gateway wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wolverines had just enough and edged out the Olympians 8-6.

Skyview's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Isaiah Rodriguez, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave Rodriguez a new career-high. Jose Godoy-Corpuz was another, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Thornton fell victim to Adams City and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 10-0.

Skyview pushed their record up to 7-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Thornton, their loss dropped their record down to 0-18.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Skyview has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Thornton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Everything went Skyview's way against Thornton when the teams last played on April 10th, as Skyview made off with a 16-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
