Preview: Woodland Regional Hawks vs. Waterbury Career Academy Spartans
The Woodland Regional Hawks will be playing at home against the Waterbury Career Academy Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Woodland Regional's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Waterbury Career Academy has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
Woodland Regional suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They took a serious blow against Holy Cross, falling 75-45. While losing is never fun, Woodland Regional can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Holy Cross is ranked eighth).
Meanwhile, Waterbury Career Academy earned a 51-42 win over Wolcott on Friday. The win was just what Waterbury Career Academy needed coming off of a 73-27 defeat in their prior matchup.
Waterbury Career Academy can attribute much of their success to Janele Lawrence, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malinna Figueroa, who scored eight points.
Woodland Regional's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Waterbury Career Academy, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Woodland Regional was able to grind out a solid victory over Waterbury Career Academy in their previous matchup back in January of 2017, winning 55-47.
