Softball Recap: Bound Brook Comes Up Short

Bound Brook was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Gill St. Bernard's Knights. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Crusaders of the 5-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2017.

Isabella Marusiak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Bound Brook saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rachael Gurczeski, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Marissa Hays also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

Bound Brook's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Gill St. Bernard's, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 4-1-1.

While Bound Brook had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
