Softball Recap: Fleming County Comes Up Short

Fleming County fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Lewis County on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 11-10. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Lions: they've now lost four in a row.

Trinity Flora spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and seven unearned) runs on 15 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mackenzie McGlone made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Courtney Doyle, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Fleming County's loss dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Lewis County, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-14 record.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fleming County will welcome Menifee County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lewis County, they will host Russell at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of.
