Softball Recap: North Mecklenburg Comes Up Short

North Mecklenburg dropped their record down to 10-7 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Hopewell Titans, falling 18-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Titans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-5 back in March.

As for Hopewell, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Considering they have won 12 matchups by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Hopewell's part, Scarlett Ernest and Tayari Williams did most of the damage at the plate: Ernest went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Williams went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Williams a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Paityn Gilchrist, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
