Baseball Recap: Blacksburg Takes Down Ranked Auburn

Blacksburg faced Auburn in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Bruins walked away with a 20-15 win over the Eagles. The Bruins' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Major Marshall was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Reese Tysor was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Blacksburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

Blacksburg's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Auburn, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 9-1.

Looking ahead, Blacksburg will be playing in front of their home fans against Cave Spring at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Auburn, they will head out to square off against Galax at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Maroon Tide have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.71 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
