Softball Recap: Algonac Gets the Win

Algonac came out on top against Yale on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Muskrats' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 13-0 shutout. The Muskrats haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Anna Murray was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kayla Raines, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 contests. Autumn Dueweke was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Algonac hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive games.

Algonac now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Yale, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Algonac will take on Lakeview at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Huskies have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.77 runs per game on average), something the Muskrats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Yale, they will welcome Imlay City at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
